The waters around Bure Cottage are brimming with bream, pike and roach. Many anglers come in the spring and autumn every year just for the sport.
Fishing is free with a rod license purchased from the post office or online here, but river fishing is forbidden out of season from 15th March to 15th June. However, there are a few private lakes around Wroxham full of carp, offering fishing 12-months a year, like Beeston Lake, Neatishead, tel: 01692 630688 or for other lakes click here. Late in the year when the Bure River cools, many fish swim into little dykes and outlets like the one beside Bure Cottage - then in the winter when the cold slows the fish, catching them becomes easier.
You can try your luck with a rod right outside your cottage or you can hire a dingy from the Peninsula office. Maggots and worms are good for roach and perch – and large bream are available on sweet corn and bread. The River Bure is famous for its large pike, lured at dusk or night with dead bait, around the same time trench are feeding. Wroxham Angling Centre will fill you in: along Station Road, turn right by The Kings Head, Hoveton, NR12 8UR. For more information on Norfolk Board fishing click here.
